The Knitwear Design degree program will equip you with the knowledge and skillsets that will keep you on top of the latest fashion trends in knit wear. Get hands-on experience and tangible techniques to design a knitwear collection from conception to final garments.


What We Teach

Design Philosophy & Advanced Techniques
Build up your design philosophies as you learn skills to represent creative design ideas. Learn to create knitwear design drawings (flats) and fully colored illustrations, and gain advanced techniques on Domestic machine, Dubied Machine, hand knit, and crochet
Individual Creative Style
You will analyze and develop your individual design strengths and philosophies as your technical skills and comprehensive presentation skills are refined. You will learn draping techniques to transform two-dimensional designs into three-dimensional garments to gain creative silhouettes. You will be required to push the boundaries of creative knitwear design.
Knitwear Basics
You will develop the processes of creating knit fabrics, learn knitwear terminology, and experiment with knitwear fabric designs. You will create different knit materials using a variety of techniques, including basic hand knit, crochet, and single & double-bed knitting machine techniques. Surface design methods, such as felting, embroidery, and basic macramé, will also be taught.
Production Skills
You will develop your knitting skills using Domestic knitting machine, Dubied machine, Industrial computer machine, hand knit, and crochet while learning about knitwear’s place in the fashion industry. You will also be assigned a knitwear design project to learn material selection, color, stitch and garment construction, and pattern making along with the foundations and processes of creating knitwear collections.

Knitwear Design Degrees

The Knitwear Design degree provides you the skills and construction techniques to produce high quality knitwear designs. You will learn to design and produce swatches, garments, and full knitwear collections. You will establish a strong personal knitwear design philosophy using visual research and design development processes.
