Grants & Scholarships

Since Academy of Art University’s art scholarships program was founded over 40 years ago, we have helped over 45,000 aspiring artists and designers pursue their educational goals. Academy of Art University offers a number of innovative and inexpensive ways for first-time students, high school students, and teachers to improve their skills and experience all that we have to offer.

Early Scholar Grant
Aspiring artists and designers looking to go to school in the fall semester may be eligible for the Early Scholar Grant which offers a limited number of awards worth $2,000.
Achievement Scholarship
Aspiring Artist and Designers looking to attend the Academy of Art University, may be eligible for the Achievement Scholarship, based on their Expected Family Contribution, which offers a limited number of awards up to $5000.
Pre-College Programs
The Pre-College Art Experience (PCAE) provides intensive, no-tuition art and design courses to current high school students. Those students receiving a passing grade in their PCAE courses can also earn scholarship money toward their undergraduate degree at Academy of Art.

The Teacher Grant* provides high school and community college art teachers an opportunity to practice and improve their skills. These full-tuition art scholarships apply toward any regular undergraduate course and are subject to limited availability.

Program Mission

  • Encourage and inspire those who work with young artists and designers.
  • Provide teachers and counselors the opportunity to refresh and expand their skills as well as tap into the creative community in San Francisco.

Program Information

Program provides a full tuition scholarship for a maximum of:

  • Three undergraduate course units for Online or On-Campus (Summer Only)
  • Three undergraduate course units for Online (Fall/Spring Only)

Recipients are responsible for all other costs and fees, including application fee, registration fee, lab fees, supplies, room and board, transportation and any other expenses.

*Applications are reviewed by the Academy’s Teacher Grant Committee. All applicants will be notified of their application status by the committee.

Eligibility

  • Open to all secondary school, community college teachers and counselors.
  • Previous Teacher Grant recipients are not eligible to apply. Grants are limited and it is the University’s mission to provide the opportunity to as many educators as possible.
  • You must provide a copy of your teaching certificate, resume, letter of intent, and recommendation letter from school principal, dean or department chairperson.

Campus Housing

  • Campus housing is only available during the Summer program.
  • A separate housing application must be completed online with Campus Housing or call 1-800-544-2787.

Take Action

The Military Scholarship provides U.S. service members (Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, and Coast Guard) an opportunity to start preparing for a career in art and design. This art scholarship applies toward any degree-seeking course.

Award Information

  • The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and inspire transitioning servicemembers to become future artists and designers.
  • Program provides a tuition scholarship for a maximum of:
    • Up to two undergraduate or graduate courses (3-6 units) per semester
    • $2,373 per undergraduate class per semester, for a maximum amount of $4,746 per semester
    • $2,763 per graduate class per semester, for a maximum amount of $5,526 per semester
    • 12 total units maximum
    • Lifetime undergraduate maximum limit of $9,492 per student
    • Lifetime graduate maximum limit of $11,052 per student
    • Applicants should be first-time students who will utilize the scholarship to fund the first four sequential semesters or until they reach their maximum lifetime limit, whichever comes first

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

  • This scholarship is open to all U.S. service members (Active Duty, Reserve, National Guard, and Coast Guard).
  • All Military Scholarship recipients must provide a copy of his/her approved Military Tuition Assistance form for scholarship eligibility.
  • Student must complete course. Withdrawal from any Military Scholarship course will result in forfeiture of the scholarship that will require the payment of full tuition for the specified course.
  • Previous Military Scholarship recipients that have met the maximum use of one course (three units) per semester for a maximum of four semesters (maximum 12 units) are not eligible.
  • Applicants should be first-time students who will utilize the scholarship to fund the first four sequential semesters or until they reach their maximum lifetime limit, whichever comes first.

The Alumni Tuition Benefit supports all returning Academy alumni with a 20% tuition benefit off all courses and or additional degrees/certificates.

  • This benefit is for the recipient only and not redeemable for cash. It may only be applied toward tuition expenses.

  • Applicant must have previously completed an undergraduate degree, graduate degree, Certificate or Award of Completion at Academy of Art University
