On Tuesday, August 17th, 2021, at 7pm PST, Academy of Art University invites you to join a free online Noir Digital Painting workshop!

This online event will be hosted by Foundations professor Joko Budiono. The workshop will teach attendees how to use photographs to figure out perspective so that they can create black and white digital paintings.

Attendees will also learn how to use the software Procreate. Procreate offers hundreds of handmade brushes, a suite of innovative artistic tools, an advanced layer system, and the lightning-fast Valkyrie graphics engine. Procreate gives you everything you need to create expressive sketches, rich paintings, gorgeous illustrations, and beautiful animations. If you want to learn the foundational skills of digital painting, you won’t want to miss this exciting workshop!

Joko Budiono, Foundations Instructor

Joko Budiono lives in the Bay Area and teaches art at Academy of Art University, where he also was a student. Born in Indonesia, he grew up fascinated by cartoons and developed a keen appreciation for visual art. Upon finishing his studies, Joko collaborated with Leandro Ng and Thomas Denmark to write and illustrate an artist’s manual in applying and mastering the principles of perspective, Creative Layout: Perspective for Artists. Joko’s follow-up book, The Thousandth Thumbnail, continues his exploration of concept development and composition. He wrote and illustrated 2 other books after: Teddy-1 and Escape from Alcatraz: The Battle of 46’. These days, Joko enjoys freelancing and teaching and watching his students’ abilities grow.
