November 21, 2019 – San Francisco, CA: The Academy of Art University School of Fashion is proud to introduce its Master of Arts in Fashion Art Direction this spring, the newest addition to a growing portfolio of essential fashion graduate degree programs.
The inaugural class of students will gain hands-on training in the multifaceted aspects of art direction, including graphic design, visual merchandising, photography, and video production.
Students will conceptualize the visual communication of targeted projects such as campaign development and photoshoot production, for which they will produce photo and video campaigns that encompass customized typography and innovative layouts. These elements are essential when creating a unique brand image that stands out among the competition.
The need for seasoned professionals in art direction is crucial as brands must craft thoughtful, compelling stories that resonate with a target audience. Imaginative campaigns are vital to companies as fashion is transitioning from brick-and-mortar to ecommerce, and relying on social media and online promotion to drive sales.
There is a gap in the way creatives and business professionals communicate—this must change. The art direction program from the Academy’s fashion school provides a solution that bridges this gap through interdisciplinary courses such as “Visual Curation and Branding” and “Creative Installation and Typography.”
This breadth of education allows students to master the core functions imperative to any fashion art direction project, and develop an essential voice for brands that will effectively drive sales for fashion businesses.
“Fashion art direction is the storytelling of styling and photography, and the persuasive elements required for effective graphic design and website design decisions that make a successful campaign—it’s about decisions made on how you effectively sell a brand to your customers.” – Flore Morton / Associate Director
