San Francisco, CA, July 16, 2020 – NBC Bay Area recently put a spotlight on Academy of Art University students as they pivot and navigate their way through art school online, and their perseverance to get their works out to the world through a virtual Spring Show.
On June 26, 2020, Malou Nubla of NBC Bay Area featured a special report on how Academy of Art students immediately pivoted online, not only for their classes but also for the much-awaited annual graduation showcase, the Spring Show.
As with most other things in these unprecedented times, the student exhibition is, for the first time ever, running exclusively online and for an entire year. This show is highly important for the graduating students as this is their opportunity to display the art portfolio that they have worked hard for throughout their stay in the Academy. It is also a great opportunity to get noticed by industry insiders, job recruiters, and company representatives.
“Adversity can really breed creativity,” said Robert Curry, Associate Director at the School of Fashion.
“At first everyone was a little bit like deer in headlights. ‘How are we gonna make this happen? How can we do these collections from our living rooms? Can I just take the position that I don’t have the right environment, I don’t have the studio, I don’t have what I need?’ and stick your heels in the ground? Or you can say ‘How are we going to make this work?’ And they did it, they really did.”
Despite the suspension of onsite classes, Academy of Art maintains an uninterrupted academic calendar. Coupled with this successful launch—and year-long presentation of the virtual Spring Show—Academy of Art University proves that it’s not just one of California’s premier art schools; it is also one of the premier art schools online.
